One, they would prefer to be in a larger group but mostly I think it's because they are new to the tank. It may take a week for them to settle in and start acting normally.

Since you just got the loaches, they need time to adjust to their new habitat. This attitude shouldn't last too long. I haven't had a fish take more than 2 days to adapt. The reason they're not socializing with each other could be a few reasons. They are most likely too scared to come out of hiding let alone communicate with one another. Another thing to keep in mind is that they're schooling fish (Answerer #1 got it). Schools of fish consist of over 10 fish. Some things to keep your fish stress free are: keep the light(s) off, don't make any water changes today, don't add any new chemicals to the water unless absolutely necessary, and drop a very small portion of food in. If they go for it, wait for them to finish it. If not, wait a day or until they're settled to feed them. Good luck with your loaches and trust me, they're loads of fun (but they do get BIG!)

Most new fish will hide for a few days until they've settled into their homes. Just provide plenty of hiding spots and some food and they'll settle in.
Just remember, Clown loaches get up to 18 inches long - you'll need to provide for that when they grow.

I'm with MM here. I have one BIG one at about 5 inches now and he's been in different tanks with me just fine. Those saying they are shy are correct, so whoever is passing out thumbs down, go sit on your thumb. I recently added a pack of three to go with my big one, and even with the four of them, they were still a little shy at first and I saw them out and around in about 5 days, all hanging around togeather togeather. I'm thinking they just like to be in the same group for safty and security and watching mine I'd say thats accurate. I really despise people that thumb down without comming out with thier own post and saying hey I disagree and you are wrong. HAVE SOME GUTS

i have 2 clown loaches as well, and they hid at first and still do! they will come out and shovel around the gravel feeding and they pick up the stones and throw them too (with their mouth, i reckon thats cool), and they sleep on their sides!, freaky. so they are in a new home adjusting, they will be ok, enjoy!

It takes them a while to adjust to their new home. Give them a couple of days and they should be swimming actively.
