Mickey Mantle. "If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself."

Another Mantle quote came from a story he told to Bob Costas while they were making a special about the "500 home run club". Mantle, Whitey Ford and Billy Martin are out on the town having a ball. They have a game the next day and Mickey is really hung over. I mean REALLY hung over. Well as fate would have it Mickey plays the game half hit in the @$$ and still has a great day. Makes a couple of outstanding plays in the field and goes 4 for 4 at the plate. When interviewed after the game the reporter asks MIck about his "flu" like symptoms and how it effected his play. Mickey, not wanting to let on that he was in the middle of a serious hang over tells the reporter, "Well, I was having trouble with my vision. I kept seeing three of everything while I was at the plate." The reporter replies, "How did you manage the get four hits today including the game winning home run?" Mickey answered, "Well, when I saw the three balls coming at me, I just tried to hit the one in the middle!"
True story!! I have the whole interview on tape!

Of course Yogi Berra has the single most famous quote of all. "It ain't over 'till it's over."

I sometimes think that Yogi seems to get a little too much credit for many of these quotes!! lol

Good question!

Not George S. but related to the NY Yankees nonetheless

THE GREATEST BASEBALL QUOTE EVER IS

Lou Gehrig "Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth." its not really about the quote as much as it was the meaning/timing of it that makes it the best

I hope this helps

"Oh, poor me (jokingly, after being told that Randy Johnson & Pedro Martinez would make more in 2003 than he would). What do I do now? I guess I'll have to get a second job."-Greg Maddux

Kruk: "Lady, I ain't an athlete, I'm a baseball player."

Or my all-time favorite, possibly Stengel but so deep and old it really doesn't matter:

"You could look it up."
