This is all a matter of opinion. Payton was clearly one of the most dominant runners of the game, though Brown WAS better. L.T. is a future hall of famer with ease. Sanders win it though. Most elusive back in NFL history, who would have the all time rushing title if he had kept playing, and Smith had retired when he should have. Plus he consistently put up the numbers without any help, no O-line, no team frankly. Barry was the man

LT has the potential to be the best out of all 3 sweetness is a fooball teams dream he could run catch block amazing player best running back ever Barry Sanders was great to watch he did so many things that you would be in awe although he was a bit undersized and he retired tooo soon. but to answer the question Walter is the best out the 3 LT at the pace hes going will be the best in the end

I would go with Walter Payton. Those who say LT, you need to watch Payton. He can run over you, he can break your ankles, and he'll run right by you. LT is great and all, but he's still young in his career. He could have an injury plaqued career from now till later. We'll have to see how he does for the rest of his career. As for Sanders, my favorite of the 3, I can't say he was THE best. He was defitnly the most elusive, but overall, he couldn't get his team to peform well like LT and Payton did.

I would have to say SWEETNESS. Barry would of been the best if he was behind the Cowboy's O-Line, he could make you miss bad. But Payton had the full package. Watch some old tapes, he never ran out of bounds, he would put a shoulder in on the defense and run him over. In today's game, LT is a beast.

Look I love watching LT as much as the next guy but let us NOT compare him to the number 2 and 3 all time rushing backs in the history of the game. Enjoy him while he is playing now, but dont start the comparisms to the HALL OF FAMERS until his career is over. Just sit back and enjoy the show.

The time to compare him to the greatest of all time will come soon enough

Who is better as is?
Tomlinson has a good start, but he needs to overtake Payton before you can rate him ahead of him.
If Sanders would have had an even descent team to play with he would have been better than Payton, Tomlinson or even Emmit Smith.

i think barry sanders i mean come on look emitt smith wouldnt even be the all time rushing leader if barry would have kept playing also barry had a bad o line and still ran for 1,000 plus yards year in year out i mean he was getting hit sometimes 5 yards in the back field and still gain yards could you amagin if he played behinde the 1990s cowboys line we may be talkimg malty 2000 yard seasons

Sweetness and LT had very good offensive lines, but they are both great backs. This is just speculation, but if Barry had ever had a half way decent line I shudder to think what he may have done, but alas we will never know.
