So there's a part in my HW that says

A knapweed produces 1000 seeds per plant.
It takes 1 year for knapwed to germinate and produce seed.
A knapweed lives for 5 years.

Does this mean they produce 200 seeds a year or 1000 a year?

That's how I interpret it.
1000 seeds per plant for its lifetime.
1000 / 5 = 200 per year.

EDIT: Actually, I think I'm wrong because you also have to take into account that it takes one year to germinate and produce seed.
That means in the first year it can't produce any seeds.
I still think it is 1000 total though.

I would think 1000 since they germinate and produce seed in 1 year and it says a knap weed produces 1000 seeds per plant.....but then again it is a little vague on whether it meant per plant per germination or per plant for its entire life.

They produce 200 seeds per year, for each of the 5 years of their lifespan.

Yeah, MsMath got it right the second time. It produces 1000 seeds in the last 4 years, zero in the first.
So that's 0, 250, 250, 250 ,250 in its five years.
