Well, it does not matter whether she is going to Niagara Falls or not, to cross the border these days you need the appropriate ID. The US Department of Homeland Security has set requirements for specific approved ID that came into effect on June 1, 2009. These include: A Valid Passport A Valid Passport Card An Enhanced Drivers License or Enhanced State ID - issued by Washington, New York, Michigan and Vermont states A Nexus Card So, unless your friend is 15 or younger she will require one of the above forms of ID. If she is 15 or younger she can cross the border with an original birth certificate or official copy. Also note that only a passport or Nexus Card is valid for air travel into and out of the US. The other ID are valid for travel by land or sea only if travelling outside of the country. Just an addition - One of the reasons this does cause confusion is that Canada has not changed their entry requirements for US Citizens. Technically all you require is an official birth certificate and government issued photo ID. However the US requires everyone, including it's own citizens, to have one of the approved IDs indicated above. In addition, Canadian law requires anyone entering Canada other than a Canadian Citizen or legal resident to have the appropriate ID to leave Canada. So the chances of getting into Canada without one of these IDs is slim.

Yes, but take some ID in addition to your passport and visa with you.

I loved the Falls!

Go on the 'behind the falls' tour; it's great!
