I often hear people say that the troops in Iraq are "protecting our rights and freedoms" and "fighting for our way of life" etc etc..
How is that?
While I agree that going after Osama Bin Laden would have of course protected America... How does Invading Iraq do that? In fact, there are countries that have a MUCH bigger chance of trying to attack the USA (such as North Korea) than Iraq did. Yes, I agree that Sadaam needed to be ousted in some way (for the sake of the Iraqi people).. But that in no way corresponds with the American way of life, etc.
I am not condemning the soldiers themselves. They are doing what they are told of course. They surely joined the armed forces to protect the country, etc..
I have no issue with the USA becoming involved with things when it makes sense (such as helping Kuwait), etc.. But I take issue with saying all the reasons that don't make sense, etc..
I'm just curious how people view all this. And no need to be rude, I am just curious.

Ok people, let's wake up here. Irag and what
happened on 9-11 is two totally different things.
Bush reacted hurridly after the 9-11 attack and be
cause we are the mightiest military in the world he
chose Irag because he knew he could go into any
country and start a war. Now Osadam Bin Laden is
free and does what he wants when he wants, and
Bush isstuck in Irag with not the slightest clue as to
what to do, and the generals are twiddling their
thumbs because they are not fighters of the city
they are fighters of the jungle and dessert, so in
the mean time while everyone is huddling and try-
ing to figure out what needs to be done, our sol-
diers are dying. Bush lied because he said that he
would not STOP until he found Bin Laden, but he
did stop because he invaded Irag and now all his
attention is there and Bin Laden is free to continue
his missions on what is next. Look out America as
terror is lurking in the neighborhood, and will we
be ready this time.

The American people were fed a bunch of lies before we entered Iraq, the president either lied directly or acted with really bad intelligence because there were no weapons of mass destruction, and the media still bends all of the information that we receive. There are probably a lot of reasons behind invading Iraq that we will never know or wont know for a very long time but preserving the American way of life is only a small part of it if any at all.

Do you recall 9/11? Over 3000 Americans were killed that day. According to most intelligence (yes, I know. Military intelligence is an oxymoron), that was perpetrated by Al Quaeda and/or Bin Laden. Intelligence also said that Saddam had WMD. If we were to just walk out of Iraq now, how long do you think it would take Iran, Bin Laden, Al Quaeda and for all we know, the damned Taliban, to move in, take over, and turn Iraq into a terrorist training ground? Also, have you noticed that we have not had another successful terrorist attack since 9/11? Do you suppose that could be because the terrorist network is being kept busy in Iraq and Afghanastan? I can guarantee that if we pull out of Iraq now, we will have terrorists climbing up our asses, and that 3000 people killed in 9/11 will be such a minor number compared to the millions that will die in terrorist acts.

At first it was to show the terrorist that they can't bomb the good ole USA and kill American people, and get away with it.
Then it turned into protecting a certain persons oil interests .
Ask any soldier who has been there why they are there.
It is my thinking that Bush will send all these troops to Iraq and have less in the states, which will make us vulnerable
for another attack

Sigh.....I see people are STILL using the words "Iraq" and "9-11" in the same sentence.
No, the poor soldiers who are dying as a result of Bush's personal agenda are in no way, shape, or form protecting our way of life---which, since Bush took office, isn't all it's cracked up to be. Saddam was no threat to us; he was in fact doing us a big favor by absolutely REFUSING to tolerate Islamic militants. (You know all those of "his own people" he was accused of executing? Well, guess who are large number of them were?)
Saddam was a run-of-the-mill dictator who happened to have had the misfortune of sitting atop a large puddle of oil.
