If you had an all-time fantasy football draft list and you could choose from: RB-Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith CB-Deion Sanders and Dante Hall QB-Peyton Manning and Troy Aikman. Who would be your 3 backs? Keep in mind the 3 Dallas Cowboys did win 3 Super Bowls together.

I would say:
Walter Payton
Deion Sanders
Troy Aikman

Walter Payton's offensive line was no where near as good as Emmitt Smith's. He was an outstanding back who earned every yard he got.

The choice between Sanders and Hall was tough. If you talk about the Sanders during his years with the Falcons and the 49ers, he was incredible. With the Cowboys, he was good but not great. That being said, no defensive back will probably ever come close to having the career that Deion had. Hall is still pretty young, but shows alot of potential. This match-up would be better asked in about 5 years when Hall has more experience.

The quarter back position is much harder to choose between. The game has changed significantly since Aikman was a QB. The reason I picked Aikman is because when he played there were fewer rules protecting a QB. In my opinion, this makes him the better QB; not to mention, he was much more mobil than Peyton Manning will ever be.

RB - Walter Payton. THE best. Period.
CB - Deion Sanders - great athlete, no competition for the best all time
QB - Peyton Manning - yes Troy Aikman was great, but Peyton will be considered the greatest in 10 years from now.

Sounds like you're a Cowboys fan...I'm not, but my choices have nothing to do with that.

- Walter Payton. There was no one else on the offensive side with him his entire career and he averaged 4.4 yards per carry to Emmitt's 4.2. I love Emmitt, but he had one of the best lines in the history of the game (Larry Allen may be the best guard ever), plus Irvin, Aikman, Novacek & Moose Johnston at fullback. He had all the pieces around him to make a great RB turn into a top-5 all time.

- Deion Sanders by far at CB (Sanders intercepted 53 passes for 1,331 yards (a 25.1 yards per return average), recovered 4 fumbles, returned 155 kickoffs for 3,523 yards, gained 2,199 yards on 212 punt returns, and caught 60 passes for 784 yards. Sanders amassed 7,838 all-purpose yards and scored 22 touchdowns: 9 interception returns, 6 punt returns, 3 kickoff returns, 3 receiving, and 1 fumble recovery. His 19 defensive and return touchdowns are an NFL record. He was selected to eight Pro Bowls in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. He was also awarded the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1994.); played on 2 Super Bowl winners (SF in XXIX, and Dallas in XXX); he is also the only athlete to play in both a World Series and a Super Bowl....Dante Hall is a mediocre CB at best and won't come anywhere close to those numbers, expect maybe at KR/PR.

- Manning, no question (37k+ passing yards, 275-139 TD-Ints, 94.4 passer rating in 9yrs)...over Aikman's (33K, 165-141, 81.6 in 12 yrs). Their rookie years...Manning 16 games, 3739 yrds passing (rookie record), 26tds (rookie record)-28ints, 71.2 passer rating. Aikman 11g, 1749yrds, 9TDs-18ints, 55.7 passer rating (Irvin was there). Aikman had two years with a passer rating over 90. '93 with a 99.0 & '95 with a 93.6. Peyton has had 6, 3 of them over 100 & an NFL record 121.1 in 2004 along with a NFL record 49TDs. Manning hasn't thrown more than 10ints in the past 4 years and has never thrown less than 26tds in a year. Aikman threw 10 or less ints in only 4 years and only threw more than 20tds once (23 in '92). Note my comments about th O-line of the Cowboys. The Colts line is amazing, but Manning would have 2-3 more rings if he had Dallas' 90's D to go with the Colts' O. Many people would argue Dallas ran the ball more giving Manning an advantage to pass more, but James had 9200+ yards in his first 7 years with the Colts missing 12 games in 01-02 where Emmitt had 10,160 in his first 7, missing only 4 games.

Walter Payton- he was the best and will always be the best...this coming from a Minnesota Viking fan.

Dante Hall- Deion was a little *****. I like Hall better.

Peyton Manning- Even though I would have picked someone else, I like Peyton more than Troy. Troy had way too many injuries.

It's hard to pick a "best ever" unless you want to strictly go by stats. They each had their own style and were great running backs. Payton was the first modern running back to have that style of running back 5 or 10 yards to make players miss, then going all the way down the field...Sanders and Emmitt too. Don't forget Jim Brown though. That guy would run over people more than trying to run around them.

i would say walter payton, troy aikman, and deion sanders. the reason i didn't pick emmit smith is because walter payton is the best all around player there was, is, and ever will be.I'm not a bears fan and i like barry sanders better but i have to admit walter was the best ever.
