what graphics card hardware does vmware player emulate?

Installed Windows 98(Guest system) but i cant adjust the resolution or color so i think i need to download a driver but i dont have any idea what card driver to get. host system is Ubuntu Feisty

No, you just need to install the VMware tools, look at the menu option on the top of the menu bar.
It will install sound.vga drivers.
