How to draw 2 different possible Lewis Structures for butene?

You could have 2 major Lewis structures, one with the double bond at the end (between carbons 1 and 2), and one with the double bond right in the middle. The formula would be C4H8 (Index of hydrogen deficiency therefore =1).

The combustion formula is:
C4H8 + 6O2 ----> 4CO2 + 4H2O

The equation for the combustion of butene is:

C4H8 (g) + 6 O2 (g) --> 4CO2 (g) + 4 H2O (l)

Please note that butEne is C4H8 and butAne is C4H10.

There are various isomers of butene

H2C=CH-CH2-CH3 which is but-1-ene

H3C-CH=CH-CH3 which is but-2-ene

H2C=C (CH3)2 which is actually 2-methyl-prop-1-ene, but which still has the formual C4H8.

Hope this helps.
