Comets are very rare. What you probably saw was two pieces of a meteorite that was breaking up. When they come through the atmosphere they get so hot that they're pretty easy to see, even in broad daylight. I think I read somewhere that most meteorites you see are smaller than a marble. Amazing huh?

Comets are far out in space and visible from everywhere in the world, not from only one location on Earth. Since none of the usual astronomy sites on the Internet are reporting any bright comets, much less two bright ones, I must assume you saw something else.

not comets, but meteors and asteroids can be seen in broad daylight if they are big enough. and they often are part of a group and thats why you saw two, there were probably hundreds, but they were so small they burnt up in no time, the streaks across the sky you saw were from larger rocks

I doubt you saw one comet, much less 2. Telescope observers around the world see them months or weeks before they can be seen by the naked eye.

No, not comets there are no comets that can be seen with the unaided eye at this time. They were probably asteroids burning up when they hit the earths atmosphere.

From what I have seen, ANYTHING is possible in the UK. Check with the Times or the Astronomical Society.
