The watch retails at over 10,000. My friend wants to sell or pawn it. how can he find out if its been reported missing or stolen by the serial number?

Bad idea. Local police station and turn it in as lost. If no one claims it after x amount of time it's his legally.

If he's worried about such things, he knows what he is doing is wrong. If there is an id or missing/stolen property report, he will get caught when he tries to sell or pawn it, and, if the watch was stolen, may be arrested. Or, the watch could be a fake, and he could get in trouble if he passes it off as real. Not worth it. Either take it to the lost and found office where the watch was "found" or to the police.

Did you really have to ask? If you friend is this unethical, I would consider a new friend.
