I'm not sure about the ugly stick, but my brother fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down!!

The fishin' answers are good, but the term also relates to stick thin women who are ugly as sin and break if you look at them. So be warned ladies.........eat well and enjoy life to stop looking like an ugly stick.
