You have a rather narrow definition of what constitutes an important contribution.
Every country on this Earth has its own place in the grand scheme of things.
Many people place too much importance on the so-called major countries of the world.
In my opinion, while they may have some things to offer in the way of inventions and modern technology, they haven't advanced either ethically or spiritually.
You think just because a country can build an atomic bomb that it is more advanced then a country such as Mexico that can only contribute such things as "tequila, beer, and cheap trinkets that are sold as souvenirs to tourists."
Mexico has a wonderfully rich culture and contributes good food, beautiful textiles and many other things, as do many other countries that are not considered to be "advanced".
There are many ways that other countries contribute to the world. Think about where we would be without the rain forests in Mexico, Latin America and South America.
Things that you think aren't significant can be quite important, you just can't or won't see it.

Maybe you should take a trip to central Mexico and see what you find.
In all honesty, this question appears to be posed out of pure ignorance. "Tequila, beer, and cheap trinkets"?? Obviously you've never seen the place.
Humans inhabit every place on this earth save Antarctica and a few other polar regions. Specific countries don't need to serve some sort of subjective global purpose or contribute to your subjective notion of world value. It's a geographic place, and people live there. Be a little more tactful when it comes to your fellow (wo)man.
Also, if you look into some history, you'll realize that Mexico was the site of some very advanced civilizations before Europeans came and conquered it (Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs).
Mexico is also home to 10-12% of the world's biodiversity.

It's obvious you are not educated enough to see that all countries have their own place for their own reasons in the world. Mexico has a lot of cultural values and has a very, and I mean very, rich archeological history. It's extremely racist and obnoxious on your part to denigrate any country and their people just because you cannot understand tehir value. Go back to school, and this time make something out of the lessons you get.

the only country other than South Africa with higher infant mortality rates...
