the largest pyramid is about 500 feet tall. Today, most cities with a population above 500,000 has at least a few buildings this height, if not higher. For instance, the tallest structure in my city, Las Vegas is 1,128 feet tall. The main reason humans have been able to achieve such extraordinary heights in comparison to our ancient counterparts, is because of 2 inventions. One is the invention of steel, which allows us to soar to such heights. Steel is stronger and lighter than masonry, therefore allowing us to build higher before the structures weight collapses on itself. Another key invention was the elevator. Noone was going to build a super tall building if you had to take stairs to get to the top :-) today, the tallest building in the world under construction in Dubai, is going to reach about 2,300 feet, maybe more. (They've kept the exact height a guarded secret until its completion.)

Interestingly enough, it was recently discovered that, the Great Pyramids of Giza were actually created using "a very early form of concrete... a mixture of limestone, clay, lime, and water." Most people will not want to accept this theory because it takes a lot of the romance and intrigue away from their design and construction, but nonetheless it is almost certain. They are still technical marvels, because of the engineering and mathematical principles used so adequately, also, casting a structure that size is not an easy task. It is easier than dragging 70 ton rocks up the side of a ramp which, in my opinion is impossible and completely impractical even if it was possible.

We can build structures similar to the pyramids today, but what we can't do, even with our advanced knowledge of physics, is build pyramids with the technology the Egyptians used, in a short amount of time.
If I remember correctly, if a large group of people got together and used tools and technology from when the pyramids were built, it would take 124 years (or somewhere close to that number).

Ever been to a big city and seen skyscrapers? Or a dam like the lady above me said. The only thing special about the pyramids is that they were able to build them back then without cranes and modern machinery we have today, other than that they are nothing special.

The pyramids were made to be tombs for pharohs,a waste of human energy and material,if they would do that today for our leaders, the cost would bankrupt the country and would not serve any purpose

We can but they wouldn't have mystical powers like the Egyptians pyramids. Besides why would we want to build pyramids anyways? We put people in graveyards.

There is no compelling reason to do so and it would be a waste of time and resources.
