Hella is the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for many BMW models such as headlamps and fog lamps.
You need to be more specific on your model year (as well as WHICH lamp unit) in order for us to answer your question better.
As a quick list, Hella makes the front fog lamps for all models of E36. But Bosch makes the ellipsoid headlamp units for the RHD E36.

Hella Lights are completely different from the stock lights on the BMW. I do not think they are any better or worse as the stock lights on BMW's are pretty good to begin with. Save your money.

Hella is the oem for BMW lights..you can very well see this HELLA emblem in a oval shaped picture in all the lights..
