Like if Bush had FF'ed in Baghdad the troops wouldn't be driving in circles getting blown up by IED's

Bush could have Changed the Course instead of Stay the Course. 3 or 4 years ago and altered the outcome.

But now we are stuck driving in circles. Surging in circles.

the flip flopping people dont like is when it betrays a commitment to nothing. When it changes constantly. But your point is correct you can stay the failed course too long.

It depends on why you are flip flopping. Many people seem to assume that it is always a bad thing, but it is not. Some people are truly just butt kissers with no real opinions of their own, and only express what the person or people they are talking to want to hear, and that is a bad thing. It is dishonest. But, it is important to be able to shift your opinion, when you are presented with new information. That is called having an open mind, and realizing that you are not infallible...that is a very good thing! LZ

If a change of position coincides with new information that leads to a new conclusion, it's a strength

However, if changes of position always occur at a politically convienient time, rather than new information, then it's flip flopping

If your change is due to additional information to make an informed decision, you should not be penalized for it.

Part of being progressive is to see the changes occurring in society and adapting policies to suit it. The opposite applies to conservatism which seeks to reaffirm old policies and traditions regardless of change; to keep things as they always were.

The ability to change one's mind in the face of one's pride when one feels their previous assertion was incorrect, is a sign of enlightenment.

Calling flexibility in thought "flip flopping" is simply meaningless ad homonym nonsense.

give it the sniff test...is it done for political advantage? or is it done because of an information upgrade?
