I'd say cops have it pretty rough some of the time. Most of their job is mundane, baby-sitting, bird-dogging idiots. The biggest difference between cops and citizens is that we chose whether or not to be in a situation that requires a cop. They have to be there, scared, terrified, cautious, or indifferent. A cop can't pull you over and then decide you look too scary and drive off, he is committed to the interaction the moment he is aware his attention is needed. From all the cops I know (6 plus in my family and close friends alone) the last thing any of them want to do is have to pull their gun out. On a side note, the last study I saw on the matter showed a 96% or higher miss rate in shoot outs, cops miss their target most of the time they shoot. Subconscious desire not to kill, or poor training, who knows..

Absolutely. They pull someone over - for doing something wrong (speeding, failure to signal, erradic driving, etc.) who doesn't want to be told they've been caught doing something wrong. So their job in this respect sucks. Not to mention having to pull over beligerent drunk drivers, deal with wrecks and the people involved in that who are all sure the wreck couldn't possibly be their fault. Police do good work, that's not easy, that most of us wouldn't even consider doing - and they don't get paid enough for it - AND all of us have ended up complaining about what jerks they are when we get a traffic ticket (or worse) - and it's our own fault. If we don't want to deal with the cops, we should walk the straight and narrow...sounds fair enough. These men and women in blue are just doing their jobs and we are rarely thankful for it.
No, I don't have a husband, or other family member that's a cop - I just feel strongly about this.

Being a Policeman in the Military I will say this about my civilian counterparts and hopefully you can see the point of view that I am seeing....
Being a Police officer in todays society is like taking a German Shepard putting him through K9 training for a pet and guard dog for your family and home...you live there all is quiet for years until one night....a person tries to break in the dog does what its trained to do and subdues the criminal giving you a chance to react summon the Police and no one in your family is hurt....the Police arrive take the criminal into custody and take him away...instead of you praising the dog you kick him in the *** because the guy may sue you for the dog biting him!
Police Officers have a terrible strain on them everyday whether you see it or not....they get hit for doing their jobs...they get b*itched at because the criminal they were chasing crashed into your car now instead of suing the CRIMINAL for doing wrong you want to sue the POLICE for pursuit and getting this idiot out of the community...I will tell you this from experience...The person dictates the ticket 95% of the time...if you are an *** and boligerant you are going to get a ticket the more your mouth runs the more money you will pay...if you are respectful the better the outcome will be...
Also dont forget the ones b*itching about the Police will be the first ones b*itching that they didnt respond fast enough to their plea for help when just a few days ago they were the ones flipping Police off calling them Pigs etc...so the next time you encounter a PoliceMan doing his/her job protecting the community county and State why not just say Thanks you will be shocked at the reaction you will get...Thanks

In a way yes. I would be terrified to do that type of work. But there are some people that get pulled over because of a certain "profile" they have. Police swear that my boyfriend has fit every description of every suspect. They have pulled him over because a liquor store was robbed, or because someone stole money from a register, and many other reasons, and each time they find nothing because he did nothing. I am so sick of this town...just one more year.

Watch an episode of Cops or America's Most Wanted and you tell me. They put their lives on the line everyday to help keep us and our children safe. My father and grandfather are retired officers and my mother and I were always fearful that some maniac would pull a gun and shoot just for a ticket.

Cops. They never know what the people pulled over are capable of doing.

The cops, generally, but I have met some that rather get off on writing tickets. lol That'll pass, though, after they've been on the force for a while.

it depends on the city/town they work in. cops in camden, n.j. have more to fear/look out for than cops in lincoln, nebraska. the irony i've found in travelling is is the cities/towns that are crime ridden you find cops that can differentiate a real threat from 1 that isn't, and treat you accordingly. cops in places that aren't violent crime ridden seem to be on an ego trip to prove something to people.

Sometimes. I would not want to deal with some of the trash cops handle daily.
