At my school, there's a teacher who uses a program to detect what people are doing on the school computers. The teacher could be watching what you would be doing on the computer and you wouldn't know anything about it. If I was writing a personal email message to some one, and the teacher was watchig me write the email; would that be against the law? And what would it be called if it is against the law?
Hope this makes sense, thanks.

Yeah, all of you are right. It kind of makes sense now. When I signed the paper to go to the school it did not state any thing about the computers being traked by the program. However, it did state that you weren't suppose to go on websites that weren't realated to school. Lol, but alright, thanks everyone. It's so annoying though when he does it. He's such a douche bag about it too. He's like, "go to detension fool." And other bull too, but thanks everyone.

By the way, I'm not trying to be rude, but I just asked weather it was against the law or not. I did not ask for peoples' opinions on weather I should or shouldn't be emailing. And NO, I am not on any purverted sites, all I do is email my Mom or other family members, so don't interporate things if you don't know anything about me.

While all of the monitoring is legal, calling you a fool is not.. I'd speak to somebody over him and tell them that you don't appreciate being called names..

I don't think so. I'm sure you had to sign some kind of consent to use the schools equipment or something at the beginning of the year. You also have to remember that it's for school use, not personal use. I can see where it would be okay to monitor use based on this rule. If you are doing something you're not supposed to be doing....looking for porn, how to rob a bank, writing hate email, etc, I'm sure you would be stopped immediately.

No that is perfectly legal because you are using school property. Lots of public places have programs on computers to monitor what the users are doing. They do that here at my work. Advice to you, don't write personal emails from school, especially ones you wouldn't want to be seen writing.

I can tell you that I live in South Africa and here it is against the law to read people's emails. A new law is being implemented and a fine of R2 000 000 can be charged. I'm not 100% sure about the info above but this is what I understand so far as I am still investigating. And I think it might be the same in your country. You should check it out online and find out, as I'm trying ti get down to the bottom of this matter myself here in our country, like I said I'm not 100% sure about the info above, but that is what I think so far.

Nope 1 schools are pretty much immune to the law. second of all it is their computers you are borrowing them completly legit for them to even copy your email that you typed on their computer and post it all over the school. There are teachers at my school that do that lol. If you want to write a private email do it at your house on your own time on your own computer

I know how this must feel like an invasion of your privacy, unfortunately since you are on the school computer and not your own personal computer there isn't much you can do about it except keep the personal correspondence at home.

I'm sure the teacher does it for a good reason. I think they are required to monitor activities in the school, which may include emails.
Computers you use at school are school's property, so I'm not sure there is any legal protection on this matter.

I would assume if they are doing it that the school has some sort of legal rationale or coverage here that allows them to do this. Then again, you never know! I'd ask if it concerns you this much. It's not an unreasonable thing for a student to ask.
