Personally, I've never tried flying a kite,
but I'm wondering how difficult it could be if there is not enough wind.
Is there a trick to it?

Hmmm...never had a problem with that -- the slightest breeze, and it's soaring. Of course, it really helps to have a good tail.

Trying to get it back down, on the other hand...there, I usually need some help, and it typically takes quite a few tries.

...as you can imagine, I never complain when someone tells me to go fly a kite...

Short string, run like "H", reel it out a little at a time until it finds the altitude where the breeze is. Once you get the basics, try an acrobatic type, they're a blast.

Yes I recently flew one and it got caught in the tree...my dad had to cut it down with a branch cutter....he was mad at me!
