That is a bacterial infection and a fairly nasty one at that. You may also have a fungus infection at the damaged area, but the bacterial infection is the most important thing to handle first. I would suggest you begin treatment with a good antibiotic. This could be any one of several bacterial infections, so let's go for something that can treat all of them. I would suggest either Furanace or Flagyl. Furanace would be my first choice. If neither of those are available to you, Tetracycline would be another choice, but it's worth looking or calling around to try to get one of the other two if possible. Once you have been treating the infection for a few days if you still see a fussy look around the sore area, begin treatment with a good fungus medication. I personally like Maroxy.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your fish

There could be a couple things happening. If he has white stuff hanging off of him that sounds like a fungus. The bulbous stomach could be from a few different things. I had a Guarami that developed a cyst in its stomach and it bulbed out like that. If you search Bettas on Google you will find sites that are dedicated to nothing but talking about Bettas and discuss all the health issues and everything so they will probably be able to recognize best what is going on. I wish you the best of luck and I hope your fish recovers!!!!

You are feeding too much. Feed him 6 pellets every other day. His gut is full of food. Wait a day or two and it will go down. If the food is more than a month old it can cause gas in the gut and belly to swell. Change food.

It seems to me like he's got a fungal infection in his slime coating do to poor water conditions. Do you have him in a bowl or a tank with filters running? What ever the case, get some antibiotics and treat him. With his slime coating deteriorating he's suseptible to getting sick. After he's better he needs to get into something with a filter if he's not already in one. I just bought one formy betta from wal-mart for $10. It has an undergravel filter and aerates the water too. Plus it looks cool.

Looks like a tumor. Not sure how to treat it but I'm pretty sure they have something that will get rid of it. Just try the local petstore and see if they have anything there. Best wishes! :0)

OH, poor fishy. I don't know but if you call your local pet sore (or take him in if you can), they should be able to tell you what to do.
