I ask this, not to offend the GOOD teachers out there, I ask this because of the kind of teachers I ended up with in High School... The kind that would write 2 sentences on the board and call it a "lesson plan" and sleep for the rest of the period.

I think it would be amazing to see how much improvement there might be if pay scale were dependent upon performance.

That is sort of unfair to the teachers who give their all to teaching and have to deal with kids that don't give a hoot no matter what they do. No wonder some teachers give up.
Maybe the question should read, would the kids try harder if they got paid based on their grades and performance in class?

Yes,they would for sure try harder. We had some local contests at English and my English teacher didn't even care about it.We had a contest at school before going to the local one and we had some mistakes because we hadn't learned that things in class, but the teacher just didn't care and she wasn't going to teach us either!

As it is now it is only the children that suffer. The teacher, and parents, have to be held accountable, take some responsibility and have consequences too.

Maybe, maybe not. Theyd probly just "teach the test" then. What I mean is teach whatever was going to be on the test so theyd get paid well and then pretty much forget about everything else.

I would hope so but all ppl are different
some just don't care and pass children
some would do anything for a child to achieve
great thing...but thats something to think about...=-]

Invalid hypothesis.
What is happening with bush's crappy No Child Left Behind is that ALL THE TEACHERS ARE DOING IS TEACHING THE CHILDREN HOW TO TAKE TESTS.
School is for LEARNING. Not learning how to take tests.

No, they'd just teach to the test, and kids would memorize but not learn.
