I want *Honest* answers....
Just for the sake of seeing where you guys are musically, do you think the above mentioned bands (or current bands like them) will be seen in a similar grand light in 30+ years as bands of the past like say, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin &/or Queen?

I deliberately did Not include The Beatles b/c No One compares to them. In a class alone. FAR too unfair to even think of it....

Interesting answers. Seems fans of the bands I mention are quite devoted. Bottomline is only time will tell....HOWEVER...I think the big difference between the 2 sets of bands is that the classic bands all had very unique sounds. I've "tested" a couple of the newer bands & I've found them like either watered down 70s punk (w/ a pop edge) or 2007 versions of 80s new wave. ..to my ears...

I love those three bands to death and they're my favourite, but i just can't see ANYTHING being played today being known 30 years from now like the rolling stones. Not even in a cindy lauper kind of way. I think nobody will even know of Justin Timberlake or Nelly Furtado or even Paris Hilton 30 years from now...

Bands like The Stones, The Who, Zeppelin and with this statement The Beatles are included too, they are the pioneers of a genre, or better yet a generation. When you hear the new music of today (or whenever) and wonder where it all started you always have to point to those great bands in the 30+ club.

When the The Beatles started there was no one to compare them with because no one else doing it. Period! Even when bands like Zeppelin, Who, etc. were playing there were not that many bands at all playing that sort of music, this was the real cutting edge and everything since derives from those original pioneers of Rock 'n' Roll. It's actually mind boggling of the amount bands that are out today than there was 30, 20 or even 10 years ago to the point where I can't hear it all, but it's an impossible daunting task to even try to! I think it'll be harder for bands of today to make it to that 30+ club because of the simple fact that there are so many bands.

Btw, you must always thank bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin & Queen because if it wasn't for them we'd all still be doing Doo-Wop!

NO!!! oh god no, I wouldn't compare those bands to 70's bands.

Fallout Boy will have a huge nostalgic factor to bank on in 30 years as most of their fans will be middle age women in cubicles, so they might end up where motley crue is now... A decent band that's fun to rag on or listen too in order to feel young again. No one will take them seriously though.

Panic at the disco MIGHT be remembered and might even become something of a good band if they mature and stop taking themselves so g*dd*amn seriously. I've seen a few live shows of theirs and it seems they think they are playing to actual rock fans and not 12-17 year olds girls who have their CD next to ashley simpsons new album at home. In 30 years i see them another piece of 2000s nostalgia on VH1.

MCR... honestly they are a pretty good band, the first album had too much pop/punk to it, but black parade is a solid Rock album. The problem is that it's too late for the media too pull them out of that niche, something they don't help by constantely being surrounded by and touring with sh*t emo groups. Once this emo bullsh*t fades away, MCR might be the ones to come out of it with some respect. Kinda the way Motorhead and Megadeth survived metal crashing and burning during the 90s.

HOWEVER...NONE OF THESE BANDS CAN BE COMPARED TO THE GREATS OF CLASSIC ROCK.
In 30 years, Led Zeppelin and Queen will have been over for nearly 60 years and BOTH will have more influence than the 3 emo bands you mentioned.

I actually think that they are bands with immense potential to be as influential as the bands you listed. They are talented. For example, FOB's lyrics speak to their fans. Their fans feel like they can rely on them to express what they are going through. This is not a quality that lasts only a few years. If they can continue to be the voice of their fans, they will last as long as they decide to share that voice. FOB is also a band that is extremely devoted to their fans, which in turn can bring them longevity.

This was a great question. You get a star!

I completly agree with you.
(mostly about the beatles part)
But i think the most succsesfull band here will be Fall Out boy.
they had a real garage band start and had or have "real fans"
((fake fans are ppl who go to FOB shows just because they were on the radio))
MCR is a real great band but they will fade out. No doubt.
P!ATD is lame. they are the cookie cutter perfect indie band.
yes, it is scary what this world will pass as music; but we just have to deal.

Hahahaha I was just discussing this issue this morning...

I think they probably will because like most other things, people seem to think that time makes things better.

The thing is... people think that time improves music... Like the Sex Pistols... everyone thinks they are one of the greatest bands ever, but they weren't a wildly popular band at the time of their existence (I have nothing against the Pistols by the way), and neither are they a wildly influential band now, but people look at them like "OH MY GOD, THE SEX PISTOLS."

I think it's ridiculous. Popular opinion is definitely not always right...

Just because the Rolling Stones are old, does not mean they wrote more than one good song (which was Paint it Black) [hahaha i expect flaming from this statement]

To tell you the truth, I think FOB & MCR will. not so sure about p!atd.

I loved all these bands before they came on the radio and all the little girls started to like them.

MCR will always be a favorite and will be popular for years to come.
So will FOB

hmmm..i am a fan of that type of music and i honestly don't know....they are becoming quite popular and i hope they do last a while

but who knows...maybe Fall Out Boy will become the new Rolling Stones

i think that for now, these guys should keep on rocking = )

and also this type of music has more meaningful lyrics (usually) then pop and rap/hip hop..i think that's why they should last forever and ever

xo
