One on cable and the other is on the dvd. Which do you like better?

The director probably made two different ends because he couldn't decided which one was better. Or perhaps he wanted to present two opposite ends of the spectrum. One to make you feel good, one to make you cry. Who knows. I like the happy one better cuz I'm an optimistic person.

I remember the ending the same way you did - though I did only watch it on DVD and not in the movies. I wonder if they wanted to leave a door open for the sequel The Butterfly Effect 2? Hey, come to think of it - I think they've actually made the film already! LOL

Directors often start with one ending in mind but don't like it and film another. A lot of movies these days have alternate endings on the dvds now just to give the audience a choice. I like the original ending better.

I watched both on the DVD and I like the alternative version better. I haven't seen the TV ending.

the dvd ending is the true ending, after reviewing the movie it was decided that the general public only wants happy endings so they changed it, personally i loved the directors cut way better, finding out that as long as he lives someone suffers, and making the greatest sacrifice he kills himself in the womb to end everyone Else's pain,

IDK. But I prefer the theatrical version, bc the other one makes me feel like the person who wrote the story couldn't think of a better version, so he made what's-his-name kill himself, but hid it from the ppl who saw it in theatres, but not the one's who bought the DVD. I just feel like it's an unfinished story....
