Yes, I have. Five years ago I was drunk every day, my life was out of control and everything was a mess. I was drinking a bottle of brandy a day and living in a place that I was losing because I had a landlord who was ripping me off, who was taking every penny from me and making the rent higher and higher and I couldn't handle standing up to him because I was drinking every day from around 9 or 10 in the morning until I went to sleep at night. I wound up homeless, had to live with my mother who made the situation worse and the worse it got the more I drank.
I do not recognize that person as me now.
I'm now sober, in control, have an okay place to live (Decent landlord) I'm mother to an 18 month old daughter and the only one who runs my life is ME. I look great, I feel a hell of a lot better and my thinking and awareness is clear as a bell. I deal with problems as and when they arise and if something hurts I feel it and acknowledge it instead of running to a bottle to make the pain go dead.
I'm a very strong person and independent to the point that I can describe myself as quite aggressively so. But I had a long journey to get where I am today and I'm proud of myself.
The person I was five years ago is like a stranger when I see her in my mind its like looking at a ghost.

I was an underage broken-hearted alcoholic that had no future but killing either myself or others. I used to drive drunk around town thinking that I would never get caught and that I would have this party for the rest of my life. I got into an accident, thank God no one was hurt, and I decided that drinking wasn't worth all this pain. I had some troubles in the past and I was drowning my sorrows in cheap, cheap vodka. And now I haven't had a drop of alcohol since I quit last year, my life is on track. I am truly happy, which I haven't been since I was little.

I learned that I'm much dumber than I first thought that I was, and that everyone else is much more capable of success, and much smarter than I am.
