Don't think it can happen?
Ha ha ha...oh you silly, unknowing people.

On May 9th, with only a minor press statement, Bush signed a directive that granted near dictorial powers to the president in the event of a national emergency declared BY the president.

If the president determines a catastrophic emergency has occured, he can take over all government functions and direct all private sector activities to ensure we will emerge from the emergency with an "enduring consytitutional government".

In laymen's terms, if Bush determines a national emergency has occured, he becomes our dictator so he can direct and and all government and business activities until he declares the emergency is over.

NSPD-51/ HSPD-20 makes zero reference whatsoever to Congress, suggesting that the powers of the executive order can be implemented without any congressional approval or oversight.

Now, if you are a neocon who thinks this is fine, consider this by using "Hillary" instead of "Bush".

Need proof?

Read it yourself directly from the White House site:

Here's your true dictator:

Funny how your ilk is fine with this.

Your inane crying of "wolf" over CONTINGENCY plans while blithely ignoring blatant POWER GRABS by your own hypocritical dictator only demonstrates your utter lack of political honesty and critical thinking.

Grow up.

Yes and every since that order was issued we have had a never ending babble from the government officials that "another 9/11 type attack is going to happen"...it's in the news everyday. Bush even rolled out some two year old "intelligence" reports that said Bin Laden (aka Tim Osmond) had ordered new attacks. I read a ridiculous article yesterday saying that IRAN is hooking up with their enemy the Taliban and AL-CIAda to coordinate attacks on America.

YEP, Martial Law and a permanent dictatorship are just around the corner...AND the American Sheeple will be all for it.

In case you did not already know, under the old FEMA rules, once their site manager advised that there was a state of emergency, the President or Governor could declare a State of Emergency, thereby suspending the US Constitution, and placing Martial Law into effect. Dig deeper and study more before you begin to panic. A whole slew of presidents already had this power, and you never even knew it.

They have been able to do that for a long time. It is, I do believe, in the Constitution. And I think that you need to read it for yourself...And I quote:

"Enduring Constitutional Government," or "ECG," means a cooperative effort among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Federal Government, coordinated by the President, as a matter of comity with respect to the legislative and judicial branches and with proper respect for the constitutional separation of powers among the branches"

So how can that be a dictatorship?

If you are old enough to remember...someone on the Internet "found" the exact same document that Clinton had signed, and was using it as proof that Clinton would declare Marshal Law and put us all in Interment Camps after the "Theory" of Y2K happened...you remember, computers would blow up and your VCR would molest your dog...

think of this, what if this catostrophic event eradicated pretty congress, how would your alternative plan, the one you obviously have in your head, work

this bill was designed in the case where there is a event that virtually destroys the country's ability to function, therefore requiring the direct care of the government in order for the country to survive

It was 1936 in Germany and they never saw it coming. Even Jews supported that dictator at the beginning.

Maybe he did it because he realizes that between now and the time he's out of office, he'll be blamed for every tornado, hurricane, tidal wave, train wreck, car accident, etc. anyway.

What the heck. Now he can be blamed.. eh?

It doesn't matter what they sign into law, if it's determined by the Supreme Court to be unconstitutional, then it's out. This is why the people should elect them, not politicians seeking to hand out favors to get something in return.
