Yeah, they always manage to know EXACTLY the wrong time to call.

Well as disturbing and sick as this sounds everytime they call I get entertained by it, I love playing with them, one called a few weeks ago while I was trying to watch a movie and they asked for my sister (she doesn't even live here anymore) so I knew it was a telemarketer, and by the fact that most times there is a pause when you answer the phone, they don't answer back right away because they got you on an automatic switchboard connected to the computer with a list of random numbers to dial (I know, I worked for one for about 4 hours and left at lunch and never went back).

Anyway, they asked for my sister, let's call her "Jen". A broke down and pretended to cry and said she has recently passed, I cannot believe you have the nerve to call and try and sell something in such a gloomy time that our family is going through, what more thanks for ruining my day as if the pain of the loss wasn't enough you want to sell something to the sister I lost.

(not in exact wording)

On the other end the telemarketer was like oh my god I am soo sorry and started studdering

I just said thanks alot asshole and hung up.

Hope the person left to get a real job other than bothering people at all hours of the day...

You know you can actually ask them to remove your name from their list and they are not suppose to argue with you. There is also a few place where you can remove your own name from amarketing list online. When I find it, Iwill let you know unless you can post the question on Answer, I'm sure someone knows. Oh and I forgot to mention that you can turn that big joke on them.... pretend you don't understand english very well by adding an accent. Trust me you will laugh your *** off and they will soon stop calling because if you can't understand what they are saying, they legally can't sell you anything. I did it once and my husband was cracked up on the couch listening to me. I was pretending I was hearing something else instead, and the guy at the other end couldn't stop laughing himself. Never heard back from them......

Hasn't anyone heard of the "Do Not Call" list? It's been around now for about 3 or 4 years. If you don't want telemarketers calling, register your number. If they call after that, you can sue them, and they will get in trouble with the Federal Trade Commission.

Play with them and have fun.
Put your tongue on the roof of your mouth and talk. You'll sound like you got a speech problem.
Tell them you're going to get your check book and put the phone down by a sound source, radio, TV, etc. (they will not hang up for a long time if they think there is still a connection).
Leave them to wait, (listen to them if you have a speaker phone) they'll eventually call out to you and threaten to hang up.
In the meantime, you can go about your business until you hear them hang up.
(If you have call waiting, you will be able to hear important incoming calls.)

Turn your ringer off and get caller ID. We bought a place and the person who had our phone # before us must have been on every calling list in the United States. Either that, or do the Do Not Call deal.

You need to do 2 things.
1) Register your phone number on the national "do not call" list.
2) Get caller ID..It's about $6 a month and it is well worth it.

I always hang up on them the second I figure out it's a telemarketer.

Kinda makes you feel better.

P.S. The "Do Not Call" list doesn't work. At all.

Yes, I hate them!
If you don't answer, they still keep calling.
I get phone calls Every morning, including weekends!
I'm to the point where- I never answer the phone- and I just might totally disconnect my phone line!

just get on the Do Not Call list. It'll take a couple of months for it kick in, but peace will reign.
