I respect certain authority. Certain authority being my role models [my parents, my family, my friends, etc.] I don't respect other authority, because no one has the right to have authority over me or anyone else. No certain person is better than the other. I have whom I inspire to be, but I'm not going to respect someone who treats me like an animal.
I'm sorry if you're lost. But that question just reminded me of something [pertaining to the law] that happened awhile back.

Only if the authority commands respect. A guy with a bully whip and arrogant attitude is not acceptable authority. Someone who presents their case reasonably and is willing to admit to mistakes and make alterations in course commands my respect.
A uniform does not command my respect, nor a despot. Provable intelligence, humanity and a sense of duty to a higher purpose commands my respect.
examples: I do not respect a policeman because he is a policeman. I respect him/her because he/she does the job decently, serves the people and is not corrupt.
I do not respect politicians as authority. They are servants of the people. I would never respect a supposed authority figure who has secret employers and a secret agenda. Hence, Dick Cheney earns no respect from me.
In short, authority must earn respect with good work and provable good intention.
Otherwise we're talking dictators, and of them I say, flush 'em down the crapper.

Respect is something that has to be earned, and at the same time respect is something everyone deserves from the get go.
Sounds contradictory, doesn't it? I'll clarify...
I will respect anyone and everyone in the beginning (I'll give them the benefit of the doubt). If a person, however, starts disrespecting me, then all bets are off and then they have to earn my respect.
It matters not if you are a bum in the streets or the President of the United States.

You mean like, the police? I do if they do their job right first. Like when I got arrested once, they were being really mean for no apparent reason. I gave them a little attitude but you can't really do much. I mean, theyre the police. My aunt's an officer so I have respect for her but other than that I think in general they're annoying =/.

As said best by John Mellancamp (sp?) in the "Authority Song" "I fight authority and authority always wins."

Chav is a particularly derogatory slang term in the united kingdom for a stereotype of a working-type young toddlers linked with aggression, undesirable coaching, and a perceived "consumer-friendly" style in way of life and garments... Thats why they are fearless...
