It looks as if this tub hasn't been cleaned in years. Any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.

ajax and a good scrub brush work awesome on tubs!

First of all, use gloves!

I would start with soft scrub with bleach. Scrub a dub dub until you've gotten off as much as you can. Rinse thoroughly.

Then, I would spray the whole tub with a mildew/tub/shower cleanswer. I would cover it thoroughly and allow it to sit for at least a half hour. After the half hour, spray it again and then get a hard bristle brush and scrub again. Rinse thoroughly.

For your final piece d'resistance, I would get a Mr. Clean magic eraser and go after anything that didn't come off. It's not a disinfectant, but it does indeed work amazingly.

All of that combined should give you a thoroughly clean bath tub. If not, then you will probably have to go after the harsher cleaners, which will scratch the tub but that's better than getting in a dirty one! By harsh, I mean Comet powdered cleanswer or something like that.

REMEMBER - do NOT mix cleaners! That's why I have you rinse thoroughly in between each cleaning. Mixing ammonia and bleach or other cleaners can create deadly fumes.

Good luck!

We had this problem when my MOM decided to buy a fixer upper, we didn't have alot of money and did all the repairing and cleaning ourselves looks pretty great but for the bathroom, we used BAKING SODA, we scrub the whole thing with it, then we soaked the tub with a majority bleach and some water to then rim, (by the way it's a old fashion huge tub) and it got out all the stains also there is this stuff called goop out think you can get it at the hardware store like Home Depot or lowes. Good Luck

To clean a dirty porcelain kitchen sink I filled it to the top with water and poured some bleach in. While wearing yellow cleaning gloves I swished it around a bit and let it sit. After that I let the water out and repeated it once more. The sink was gleaming white. We then scrubbed it a little more and used typical disinfectant spray.

Our apartment had rust in it, though, and I don't know how to clean that. Some of the porcelain had eroded over time because the faucet was drippy. We just used the shower.

I'm not sure if using bleach is bad or not. We weren't technically supposed to put in chemicals in the drain. But oh well.

Use The Works bathroom cleaner. Squirt it directly on the tub and let sit about 5 minutes (wear a mask, it's stong). It works better than bleach. After you've cleaned and rinsed it, if it's a textured tub and there's still stuff, use an extra strength magic eraser and scrub. Works great. Good luck!

First of all, get some gloves. The dishwashing kind will work. Harsh cleaners are very hard on your hands too! I suggest Comet. It has bleach in it, and it's gritty, which helps get the caked on stuff off. It's great on stainless steel sinks and can even get Kool-Aid stains out of a white countertop. Put your gloves on, wet the bathtub down, sprinkle the Comet all over, and get to work scrubbing with a sponge!

Good luck! I'm sure you'll get it sparkling clean in no time!

You could have a combination of problems. If it's dirty enough to warrent filling it with hot water and soap and letting it set a few minutes do that and then scrub with a soapy brush or broom. In a bathtub sometimes shampoo works better than other soap to clean it. You might need a mineral deposit cleaner. I really like Mr Clean's majic eraser for things that hot soapy water won't clean. Good luck.

I usually use comet, the powdered kind a little water to make a paste and a hard bristled scrub brush. Scrubbing bubbles works well too. If this doesn't work talk to the apartment landlord about replacing or at least painting the tub if it is made out of porcelain.

First to make it easy on you , spray scrubbing Bubbles al over the Tub and let it soak ! Then after that use Cleanser to scrub the rest away . Use your muscles good if there are layers of scum in the tub . And use real hot water to rinse!

Should come out clean as a whistle!
