I have a large rock behind my house that I want to move into my landscaping. I have to get this rock through my 4 foot wide gate that is in my 6 foot tall iron fence and move this rock about 30 feet total. I estimate this rock to be about 400 pounds. I cannot get any large earth moving equipment back there since it would destroy other peoples property. Does anyone have any suggestion how to move this rock?

They rent bobcats that are small enough for you to get back to the rock and they are rubber tire and will not damage the area very much at all.

Good luck!

Measure the rock to make sure that it will fit through the gate, if not don't bother trying to move it.

400 pounds really isn't that much - if it really is only that big. Dig some dirt out from under the front side and stick a heavy duty tarp in front of it, then get some friends to help you roll the rock onto the tarp and pull the rock to it's new location. Just watch your toes because someone could easily get hurt.

Make sure you know how you want the rock positioned and that you've prepared the area you are moving it to. Create a bit of a hollow in the ground to help it slip into place.

Good luck and be careful.

Just pick it up and carry it, wimp.

A dolly is probably your best bet. One with big wheels. And about 3 friends to help you horse it up onto the dolly and stabilize it while you move it.

ask your neighbors or friends to help you move the rock
