In 6th grade our teacher read a book to our class, and I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called. I swore it was Rudyard Kipling, but I can't seem to find anything listed under his name that fits.

It was about a boat ride down a jungle river (maybe the Amazon). I remember some type of bird being described in detail. And I'd swear there was a name like "Tiki" in it.

I tried Riki Tiki Tavi and Tiki Tiki Tembo... not it.

Anyone have a clue???

I agree with the person who said it is probably "Kon-Tiki" by Thor Heyerdahl. It was excerpted in at least one English literature book for middle/junior high school students in the late 1960s/early 1970s.

How about Kon Tiki? I think it was about going across the Pacific Ocean in a raft.

"Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" is the name of a story about a mongoose. It's in the Jungle Book. Could that be the one?
