i love to study ants and the way they work together. i often wonder what they must be talking when they pass by each other.

Actually, they are exchanging saliva, so, they are kissing, and in each kiss is a message being communicated.

I think they are thinking this, "Get the Bread, I got the Bread, good, get it to the Queen, you know how she is, yea yea, I know, we all saw what happened to Larry, Yea, so, how are the kids? Not bad, yours? Eh, so so, but they taste better with salt, gotta get that Bread, oh yea, see ya pal, you too." All in a kiss, neat, huh?

Not ants, but I've wondered what other animals are saying/would be saying to each other! Ants might be telling each other to work and be careful not to get stepped on.

I've watched a single ant wandering and wondered if he was yelling for help and directions. And when they approach each other I've wondered if it's the "friend or foe" challenge soldiers give to unknown persons. Then when they pass, they reply with name and hive and duty assignment.
