Sorry to tell you this, but there really is nothing historical about the story told in the film, play or book.
It's a heavily fictionalized and romanticized portrayal of the founding of the KKK.
So, you could check out a book or webpage on the history of the KKK.

Have you tried looking it up? Did you know that there is a lot of information on the internet? There is even a lot in the library. You know, books, etc.
