Being a horror film buff and all (thanks in no small parts to the specific author) - BIG fan of Stephen King. Have read Dean Koontz, but Koontz simply does not have what it takes to make your skin crawl and give you nightmares while/after you've read his books. Koontz's stuff translate better on screen though.
King, on the other hand is simply a GREAT storyteller whether it's emotionally/psychologically wrenching stuff like THE GREEN MILE etc. or his forte, straight down horror. My only complaint with King is that he has alienated a certain section of his fans with his serialization novels (the Dark Tower series, Desperation etc.). But am a rabid fan of his standalone work.
Personal faves - all of the short-stories stuff (Nightshift, Dreamscapes & Nightmare et al), Salem's lot, The Shining, The Stand. Whoa! Never scribbled that much before. :)

I prefer Stephen King's older books. But Koontz has some really awesome books, and he doesn't take forever to get to the point.

I like Koontz a little better. But I like them both. And out of the the books, my favorite is probably The Stand, by King.

Stephen King. His books are more suspenseful. Dean Koontz's books I just find kind of depressing.

I love them both but I would have to go with Stephen King. Koontz books are, for me, a quick read. Full of mystery and chills but his stories just end. King makes you think. It's good versus evil, it's your next door neighbor who has a grisly secret. Even though it's fiction, there's enough realism in the characters that you could almost see it happening

I would have to say King. When I read his books he makes me what to check under my bed and in my closet for the boogieman before I go to bed. Koontz is also great, I loved Darkfall, but he doesn't have a lot of gore/horror that King does and I love that about King.

King, Koontz gets a little too 'out there' sometimes.
Actually, I've graduated to Jonathan Kellerman, the Alex Delaware novels. Much better.

Koontz, King always seems to get bored near the end of his books and come up with a short bizzare ending that seems like its there just to put a stop to the rambling.

Stephen King defiently. he's so gifted. i really like his mini sequence similar to Kingdom Hospital and The Stand. I love getting over excited in his books too. The films are fairly intriguing as you'll inform. He is simply anything new than all of the equal horror film/ ebook stuff. He bottles your mind and makes you suppose in an absolutely another way approach. He's remarkable. WEll, in any case that is my opinion
