I don't want to hear about accidents, but from women who are pregnant now who made it their mission to conceive. How long did it take? I'd especially like to hear how long it took if you had a miscarriage first. This is your chance to shine ladies, let's hear your story. Thank you for sharing :)

Okay, didn't mean to offend when I said accident...I should have said "happy accident"... heck, according to my mom I'm an accident, LOL. What I meant was is that there's a difference between feeling "if I get pregnant I get pregnant" and really "trying" to conceive... charting cycles, planned sex, researching fertility issues, etc. My question was directed to those who did the latter. These stories are all excellent and exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer. Congratulations to all of you and thank you for being an inspiration!

It took my husband and I seven months, and we were timing everything from month one, and started using ovulation kits around month 4 or 5.

We didn't do ovulation tests and all that kinda stuff, we just had sex more or less every other day. It took me 8 months aka 6 periods (irregular periods... 30-43 days). The first few periods we were really excited, hoping I was pregnant, but with every test I wasn't and then eventually I'd get my period. Then after 5 months or so I found out that the medication my husband was on (Depakote) is known to make men (almost) infertile while on it, so we kinda figured that odds are it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. We got wrapped up looking at houses etc and then right after we'd signed to buy a fixer upper (or what most people would've called a bulldoze downer, ahem) I finally managed to get pregnant after all! We'd totally forgotten we were trying, so that was kind of a shock (not a bad one, just... we hadn't expected it). Financially it wasn't nice, and I haven't been able to help much with fixing the house up either, which sucks for a variety of reasons. Basically, kids will just pick the least convenient moment to show up imo.

We're really happy to be expecting a child though... can't wait till our son will be born (he's due late August). Btw... I'm 22yo and my husband is 30yo.

Edit: you ovulate about 14 days before your period... which on a 28 day cycle is about 14 days after your period, but on a long cycle is later.

I've never had an experience with miscarriage, but I can tell you my story. I had went off of birth control in February 2001. We began actively trying though I knew that I would not getting pregnant right after going off of it. Though by that following July I got a positive on a pregnancy test. I was real diligent and learned all I could about conceiving. I didn't want to be trying and it not even be the right time so I made sure I knew what I needed to know.

When my husband and I got married it was my fertile time, and I conceived on honeymoon. However at my twelve week scan we found that the baby had died about three weeks earlier. I knew nothing about it, it was a huge shock. We started trying again straight away, and it took us a year. Then when we were trying for number two it took about 5 or 6 months. And number three took about 3 months. I am now expecting number four and this one took 4 months of trying. All of my babies have been planned. I also have a child from a previous relationship. I think I concieved her the first month of trying.

When my husband and I started trying I got pregnant and miscarried right away, only about 5 weeks into the pregnancy. I was very upset. We continued to try and it took us about 3 months to get pregnant. I used ovulation tests every month and wrote down everything that was happening to my body on a daily basis. I was so scared that I wouldn't be able to get pregnant. I had no reason to be scared, but I just was. There is such a slim margin of time that you can get pregnant every month that it is scary. Now I am 38 weeks pregnant and I can't wait for it to be over!!!! Pregnancy is hard from start to finish, especially if it is something planned.

Got married August of 02, no birth control from then on. Got pregnant with my twins (naturally) in March of 05. We had about 14 months apart due to Iraq deployments. So, that leaves about 17 months of active trying.
I charted for a good bit of that time, but REALLY got deep into the whole thing after reading the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility," at the suggestion of some friends. The MONTH after reading that, we were expecting our twins. Best of luck.

I went off of the Pill a few months before I wanted to get preggo. In the end I was off of the pill 8 months before I got pregnant. The last 6 months I was actively "trying" and the last 4 months I was charting and using Ovulation Predictor Kits. It was getting discouraging and I even asked my Dr about starting fertility testing, but then it just happened.

We activly tried to concieve a child for 19 months. I quit trying because I was in a wedding and didn't want to be pregnant for my best friends wedding. Yep, I got pregnant the first month I wasn't stressing over the impending bundle of joy. Relax, if its meant to happen, it will. My second child was concieved while I was on the pill. It will happen. Stress killed all my chances. Take a vacation from the stress. Try 6 months, then not try for 6 months...It will happen. Oh, I did have a miscarriage 36 months before my first child was born.

We started trying Dec. 10, 2006. I had been on the pill for over 10 years. I got pregnant March 31, 2007. We were charting so I know exactly when I got pregnant. Just this week we found out we are expecting not one baby, but two! TWINS! Scary and exciting. So I guess it took us just over 3 months.

I started trying in March of 2006, I am 11 weeks pregnant now so a little over a year. I am not sure if it made a difference but before I was trying I had gotten one depo provera (birth control) shot and it is supposed to last for three months and you get another one, well I never went to get another. I just started actively trying, there were alot of let downs every month but we are so excited now!!

We started trying at the end of November 2006, and found out we were pregnant on January 15th, 2007. So, it only took a little over a month.
