about a trojan virus, spyware, and other worms and viruses. I get several pop up screens and windows that say all kinds of warnings, and direct me to several websites to pay $49.99 to cleanout my system.
Anyone know what this is, and If I can get rid of it on my own, thank you.

Is the advertising trying to sell you, one (or more) of these useless products? If it is one of these, then it is likely an infection called Smitfraud that is causing the phony warnings. It is scam advertising trying to swindle you. DO NOT PURCHASE THE SOFTWARE>>IT IS A SCAM. A link to a free removal tool is down at the bottom here.

If so, then you most likely have a Smitfraud infection and a free removal tool called SmitFraudFix with the removal procedure is here:

More infomation and another free removal tool called RogueFix can be found here:

Most "All-Purpose" malware apps such as AVG, Norton, Spybot etc unfortunatly can not remove or even detect this vile pest called Smitfraud.

Good luck.

The pop ups about viruses, worms, trojans, etc. (that are asking you for money) are advertisements.

If you are seriously concerned there are various free softwares that you can download and run to help secure your PC.

I would suggest Adaware SE Personal, Spybot S & D, Windows CleanUp, and AVG (an antivirus).

That should get you started.

As far as the porn, well sounds like someone was being a little naughty....Or visiting sites for illegal downloads and cracks and somehow got some garbage installed.

You can run what is known as "online virus scan", direct from the servers of Kaspersky Lab Russia. Rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. The scan can take upto two hours depending on how many running processes you have and how many programs you have installed. The scan will kill the viruses in real time. Allow the complete scan. Upone completion reboot your system.

If you don't have an antivirus program in your pc here is a free excellent one from AOL, Active Virus Shield powered by Kaspersky Labs., of Russia.

AOL will only ask you for your email address so that they can send you a free key good for one year. After one year just request a new key.

The online scan, will not conflict if you have an existing antivirus program that failed to find the virus.

Your friend went to a website or websites and got your machine infected. You need to do a couple of things:

1) Get a good virus scanner/protection. I like Avast ( Http://www.avast.com ). Install and let it run.

2) Find a good spyware detector and cleaner. Spybot is a good one ( http://www.spybot.com/en/index.html ). Run this.

3). Disable Windows Messenger service. For home PC's, this is pretty much useless. Go to Start, Run, and type in services.msc. Click OK, then when the window comes up, scroll down and find Messenger. Right click on it, and select Properties. Under Startup type, select Disabled. Click ok, then restart. You should be fine.

I would recommend the following: since the computer seems to have alot of viruses I would recommend a decent anti-spy-ware system. Such systems could be Norton Security 5.0+, or sympatico Security virus clearer. I hope this helps.

DO NOT PAY ONE OF THOSE SITES!!!

Those sites are the one that infected you, so they could mix in an ad for removing their own crap. To top it off, they won't remove it. You need to do it yourself, with some help of course:

Step 1: Run your preferred anti-virus program. If you don't have one, here is a legitamate one you can run online for free:
[TrendMicro] http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Here is a free one you can install and run locally:
[AVG] http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Step 2: Run at least one anti-spyware program. Here is the one I use:
[AdAware] http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10672044.html?tag=lst-0-1

Step 3: See what you're left with. You might find that you still have the problem and will need to Google the specific problem to get customized removal instructions.

Here is a decent preventative maintenance thing you can run if you're really paranoid. I think it's a bit over the top, but if you're one of those people that prefers to do too much rather than not, you could run it weekly as suggested. Of course, you could just do it occasionally as well:
[Security Tango] http://securitytango.com/tango.php

GOOD LUCK!!

if they are popups that show up in internet explorer or another web browser then you need to get a pop up blocker

if they are windows messages (looks like a warning that windows puts out, not a web browser) do this for a quick fix
go to Start>Control Panel>Administrator Tools>Services
look for Messanger, double click, in the drop down menu change it to disable then apply/ok

UPDATE WINDOWS
get a pop up block
get virus protection
stop letting your perverted friend look at porn on your computer

Sounds like spyware.

For starters... Try the Trend Micro free online malware scanner / remover http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

For future protection... Keep an anti-virus program installed on your system. The free AVG one is great if you don't have one. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free

Also install Spy Bot Search and Destroy. Occasionally scan your system for spyware. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Installing SpywareBlaster will prevent most types of spyware from being installed on your system in the first place. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/

Using these 3 free programs... I've had no problems at all with anything undesirable getting into my system for years.

If it is from pop up pages, ignore them. They are just trying to get your money. Most of them are just scams and do not even remove the infections.

There are a few free antispyware and antivirus programs out there that will actually do the job.

Here is Adaware
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html

This is Spybot
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html

And this is the free version of AVG antivirus.
