First of all, the US must give Israel an ultimatum that if it does not follow the Arab Peace Plan and withdraw to its 1948(1967) borders and commences negotiations on the difficult refugee problem the US will withdraw its voluminous aid.
The US should allow the UN to solve the matter. If Palestine and Israel do not reach a peaceful solution, i suggest dividing the country in half along the North-South strategy used in Korea and Vietnam with a demilitarized zone in the middle.
I would call it the "Solomon solution".

Terrorism is pursued through intelligence. No pun intended. Intelligence operations are the only effective tactic to neutralize terrorist threats.
To curb (or even stop) the mushrooming of terrorist organizations in the Middle East, the US needs to withdraw from Iraq, pay reparations and kindly offer to help any M.E government on education and health campaigns.
To deal with the issues which cause terrorism, the US ought to work with the international community in peaceful democracy promotion, nuclear disarmament, academic collaboration, cultural exchanges, environmental reform and a plan to eradicate all borders.
About Iran, what again is the problem with Iran? stop giving them a reason to get weapons and monitor the reports of the UN inspectors. Who by the way say that things don't look threatening on the ground. I also think the US should follow its NPT obligations. Iran has a right to peaceful nuclear energy and nobody has a right to judge them for something they have not done. Especially not the country with the largest nuclear stockpile in the world.
Finally, the UN charter ought to be enforced universally through a stronger UN army, the ICC and UN branches.

There is much that can be done. If the question is what the US can do immediately as of today to solve the Middle East crisis, that is my the roadmap.

Put pressure Iraq's government to take control.
As long as our troops are there in harms way every American needs to support them. Those that want to make this another Vietnam (cut and run) should remember these guys are risking their necks to protect them and their anti-troops views.

I agree--We need to continue to monitor Iran but I also believe we need to look before we leap into another war.
