You might want to talk to your OBGYN about this. You might have whats called gestational diabetes. Nothing to really worry about, it will go away after you have the baby..but it also might mean that your baby will come out big.

Are you eating a balanced diet and avoiding sweets, soft drinks, fried foods and junk food? If so, perhaps you need the weight for some reason. I gained like that with my first one and I strictly followed my pregnancy diet. I gained 55 pounds with my pregnancy. After she was born, the doctor found out that I had a marginal placenta; the cord was attached at the edge instead of in the middle. They said that if I had been worrying about my weight, I would have been high risk for premature birth. She was only 6 lbs. 12 oz. I lost 60 pounds after she was born. It took 5 1/2 months and I did not really try; I just breastfed her.

It depends on what your pre-pregnancy weight was. The ideal weight gain for an average weight woman is 25 lbs. If you were underweight, then you should gain about 10 lbs. more and if overweight, about 10 lbs. less. If your OB hasn't discussed your weight with you, then you should ask about it. The most weight is gained at the end of pregnancy. If you continue to gain 6 lbs./month, your total weight gain will be close to 60 lbs. You'll be checked for gestational diabetes soon. Being overweight can contribute to it, so try to watch it more closely from now on.

I am also 5 months pregnant and have gained 20 lbs. I had done pretty good before this visit with only gaining 12 lbs., but somehow I gained 8 lbs. in one month! My OB brought it to my attention. She said that since I had done okay so far that one jump in weight is okay, but I should watch my diet more closely from now on. I had only gained 26 lbs. total with my last pregnancy, so I was really depressed about this.

Best of luck to you.

I would say it's not that bad - well I've gained anywhere from 40-75 with my pregnancies. As long as your doctor doesn't see any problems, you're okay. Maybe you can start walking or something like that if you're really concerned. Otherwise, now is not the time to worry about weight gain because every pregnant woman is different. I lost all of the weight each time too!

By the way, my kids have all weighed 6 - 7 lbs so weight gain is not indicative of how large your baby will be.

Definitely don't start any kind of drastic diet before you talk to your doctor. Your baby needs you to keep up with your calorie intake. Make sure you are not eating empty calories, such as candy bars or potato chips. It is okay to treat yourself on occasion, but not everyday, especially if it seems that you are packing on the pounds quite easily. You also must consider how much you weighed pre-pregnancy. If you were small, then 30 lbs. might not be a big deal. Good luck and Congrats!!

wow, really that is a large amount of weight to gain if you are having a single pregnancy and are healthy, what does your doctor say about your weight if you are gaining too much usually they will tell you, if i were you and everything is fine i would try to slow down because you are only half way through your pregnancy, you still have 20 weeks to go if your gaining 6 lbs a month you will have gained 60lbs by the time you deliver and that will be hard to loose...but good luck and best wishes

I'm not going to say it's REALLY bad, but you should probably slow down a bit. Most of your weight gain comes in the last trimester, and you have a ways to go yet. Your doc will talk to you about a sensible diet if need be. Good Luck!

I would say that to gain 30 pounds so far is a little more than they would like you to gain. I would check with your doctor about your concerns. Everyone is different.

I weighed 138lbs before I got pregnant and now I weigh 178lbs. I do not look like I weigh 178lbs and I'm 6 months pregnant. I still look good. All I have to say if you eating when your hungry your okay. When you’re eating just to be eating than maybe you’re stressed. Drink a lot of water.
