bug with antler thingies was climbing up my outside wall & was trying to get into my bedroom! It was like the size of a robin. It was huge & black & shiny. From my description my mum thinks it was a stag beetle but it looks nothing like one. What could this alien-like bug be & do you think I may get more trying to get into my house?

It sounds like a water bug and they mostly remain outdoors. I found one many years ago on the sidewalk in front of my home. I picked up a stick and poked the bug with it. He actually raised up a little bit and started to attack the stick as though it was another predator! It was rather funny and some what scary. I left it alone to go on it's way and I never saw another water bug after that. Bugs can make you nervous.

Your mom is right, and no one here has any idea if you'll see more of them or not, and it really is nothing get your drawers in an uproar about. It's a bug. You can crush it to death with barely any effort, and it has no ability to harm you. Better yet, next time you see one, capture it in a jar, transport it somewhere safe and let it go. They're really marvelous creatures.

You're most likely describing a water bug -- a large scary looking beetle -- which is completely harmless.

Depends on where you live they are called carpenter beetles in the coachella valley and yes they are the size of birds I as a kid used to shoot them with my BB gun they are harmless for what I understand.
