You know, the Fratellis might be a good bet. Same with a little black eyed peas, some (appropriate) system of a down, Finch, ahhh good stuff.

That would depend on what sort of musical tastes she has and whether she is more inclined towards aggressive music or easy listening. As she is in her late 30's or early 40's, it's always good to look up some good 80's and early 90's music, especially the bigger hits and power ballads. Think bands like ABBA, the Bee Gees, Jon Bon Jovi, David Bowie, Prince, Whitney Houston etc.
If by oldies you mean 60's and 70's hippy music, you can always try downloading some Simon and Garfunkel, along with a bit of Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Janis Joplin, and Leonard Cohen thrown in for good measure.
If you google hits from a particular decade and go from there you should be able to get some good ideas. At least with the hits you're bound to get some universal appeal and are more likely to get ones she likes. Best of luck!

We prefer to call it classic rock so go that way with it. Look up info online for music from the Summer of Love (1967), ie., Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Who, Rolling Stones, Cream (Eric Clapton) etc., Montery Pop Festival, Woodstock. Maybe throw in some cool music from the early 70's and some disco music from later 70's like Blondie......
Must have - Beatles

Throw some classic rock in there, but also give her a little newer stuff too. You might be surprised on how much she may enjoy stuff - she might just need an introduction. Try some Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters(time's like these) and that type of stuff.
