I think a lot more companies are starting to use computerized phone services. Am I a fan, that depends on whose on the other end getting replaced. If it is someone over in India that I can't understand, and they can't understand me and my problem, then Yea I am all for it, could probably get further with an automated system. But if it's replacing someone that speaks and understands proper english then I would rather have the person.

Of course they are. Automated systems don't get paid $10.45, have a union, medical leave, vacations, and worker's comp. In another ten years, no one will know about an operator anymore than we know about wheelmen and barrelmakers today.

As a former operator, I wish they would bring back the position. I believe the good PR of actually reaching a person would improve business 100%. And some of us would be thrilled to have the job.
