That is not a dumb question...
Couvades symptoms (or the sympathy pregnancy symptoms) usually start cropping up somewhere around the third month of pregnancy and may taper off a little bit and then can come back again a month or two before the baby is born. The symptoms usually disappear when the baby is born.
No one is really quite sure why guys get these symptoms but there are a lot of theories out there. One is that men are programmed socially or biologically to try to protect their families and to keep them from harm – it’s that old provider/ protector thing and since they can’t really do a whole lot to ease the discomfort and pain that their partner is experiencing during pregnancy their brains come up with this really great idea of trying to ease her pain by taking some of it on themselves. Unfortunately this usually only succeeds in making the pregnant woman angry that her partner who is obviously not with child is complaining about sore feet, swollen ankles, and weight gain.

I've heard of sympathy pains or sympathy symptoms. It's actually very common for the guy to get pains or other symptoms at the same time as the woman!
I'm sure it's different for every couple, and some men don't experince it at all. I've heard of women's back hurting bad later in pregnancy. They're husband/bf will come home complaining of a back ache (without knowing of gf's/wive's). Some guys will even get morning sickness along with their gf/wives! My friend's husband had a lot of her sympathy pains.
I'm 8 weeks into my first pregnancy, and my BF hasn't really been experience what I have been. But it's still early, so we will see!!

I don't think this is a dumb question at all. And in fact, I was really surprise to learn that some men do in fact experience pregnancy symptoms along with their gf/wives including morning sickness, weight gain, cravings. My husband experienced morning sickness, started to gain weight at the beginning and experiences fatigue (this is great for me as we take our nap at the same time ;)
I've read a few articles that indicate these men experience a very close connection to their unborn child and to their better half and that is why they experience these symptoms. I just enjoyed it - especially when he had a few days of morning sickness.

This is our 2nd child that I'm pregnant with currently and thankfully my husband seems to be getting all the nausea for the pregnancy..
Other than that tho, only other symptom he's experiencing is pain in the pocket region whenever I go into walmart or baby stores :D

It's called Couvade. It's pregnancy sympathy. They gain weight, have mood swings, cravings, and my husband has been more airheaded than me lately. lol. He wakes up at 2 in the morning and I hear him going through the fridge. Haha!! Some even go as far as to have sore breasts and morning sickness. It's cute. I take it as a sign of love=)

OK with my second pregnancy my husband had some of the symptoms, like feeling nauseated, peeing allot, and cravings. I honestly think the closer bond that two married people have the more likely that they share the same feelings. ( and symptoms)

Well, I can't speak for all men but, my fiancee just had our first child about 7 months ago. I slept alot and had cravings for strange foods. I don't know about peeing but, I did feel strange the entire time she was pregnant.

It's not a dumb question. My SO was definately sympathetic when I was pregnant. He ate some stuff when I was pg with our daughter that I wouldn't touch(like cool ranch Doritos with vanilla ice cream...I mean, he was using the ice cream like dip!!! ICK!) When I was pg with our son, he was just as moody(read "b*tchy one minute and happy the next")as I was. And with both, he gained about half as much weight as I did.
