$25.78 in the year 2006 has the same "purchase power" as $1 in the year 1774.
.
The value above is based on 1774, remember that in 1747 individual colonies were for the most part still using coins and paper money produces in foreign lands. They eventually began to print their own currencies and then latter during the constitutional convention it was determined that the control and printing of the currency should be maintained at the federal level. I am not really sure that your question has an answer.
The value is based on what could be purchased then compared to now for $1.00

There was not American currency back in 1747. The United States of America was not formed and did not declare independence until 1776. Thus, what currency did exist in the British colonies was British and not USA American.

Based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), 1 US dollar in 1747 can buy the same as $31.98 now, meaning your average $35,000 car now would cost $1085 in 1747...
Time to get the DeLorean out of the garage, go back to 1747 and buy that car I have been wanting!
Oh wait...

That date was before Independence Day 1776. We were in the British pound system.. not had the dollar yet. The actual paper dollar did not come about until quite some time later.
