Truckgirl and dee the genius must not be from the triangle of Green Bay, Appleton and Milwaukee because it's strictly "soda" there, and pop in other parts of WI.
When I lived in Sheboygan, I worked with a woman from Massachusetts and no one had a clue what a "tonic" was. They thought it was medicine.

Both are correct. It doesn't matter what you call it. What matters is that the person your talking to understands what your talking about. I was so not aware of a cultural divide.

When I lived in TX, everything was a Coke...then we moved up north, and everything here is a pop, but we still hear ppl saying soda. Either one works for me.*

Down here in the South we just about call them all just cokes. Then ask what flavor. But it's soda mostly.

I'm from Michigan, and it depends on who I am with. I have a friend from Ohio that say soda, so I usually say that when I am with her. At restaurants I usually say pop.

Soda pop.

Just kidding. I'm from Idaho, and we pretty much call it both an even 50/50. I think more than where you live, it's where you were raised.
