The U.S. lacks refinery capacity because the Libs blocked all attempts to build a new refinery for the last 30 years--so why did they whine like schoolgirls?

Hey, darlin' Another GREAT Question! But let's FULLY expose the liberal energy HYPOCRACY, shall we??

They CLAIM to be interested in "Reducing our dependency on foreign oil," BUT:

1) They REFUSE to let us drill for OUR OWN oil in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. Less than 1% of the people that populate these Great United States will EVER visit that area, but they use the "protecting the wilderness" garbage to deny drilling there! They also talk about "saving the wildlife" though it has been proven that the Caribou population has SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED along the Alaska pipeline, due to the heat given off! I have NO PROBLEM with telling the oil companies that we will hold them accountable for keeping the area clean, and that they will be taken to task for any spills, etc, but for heaven's sake, we have BILLIONS of barrels of oil there, let's go get it!
2) Same Bat time, different Bat Channel--there is an absolutely HUGE oil deposit in the gulf of Mexico that Environmentalists do not want to let us go out and get! But, they have no control over Cuba, and Mexico, who ARE going out there to drill for oil! Now really, which country do you think has the best technology to safely drill for oil in the gulf--Us, Cuba, or Mexico? Again, hold the oil companies accountable for taking care of the environment, and take it to them if they DO have a spill, but LET THEM GET THE OIL!
3)When was the last time we built a NUCLEAR power plant in the United States--the 1970's? Do you know that FRANCE--yes, freaking FRANCE--gets a majority of their power from NUCLEAR power plants? The fallout from the Three Mile Island incident all those years ago was less than you would get from a few dental x-rays--though the hysteria made it seem like Chernobyl! The technology for safe nuclear power is there--even the FRENCH have figured it out--and the IRANIANS say that is why they are working with uranium (and for those that dont believe Bush, they must believe that the Iranians are working on "Peaceful Nuclear Power"). C'mon people, aren't we AT LEAST as smart as the French and the Iranians?????
4) You are spot on about the lack of Refineries, and refinery capacity. Again, nothing new built in decades. I have heard that our demand for GASOLINE increases by the capacity of 2 new refineries per decade. We NEED to increase our refinery capacity, but the liberal environmentalists refuse to let it happen!
5) Coal and Oil Shale: Again the technology is there to use these two energy sources in an environmentally friendly way--and there is an AMAZING abundance of both of these resources IN NORTH AMERICA, yet we do not exploit them anywhere near their full extent--again because of fear of the reaction from the militant environmentalists!

As Alan Greenspan said today, "The problem of crude oil is not that we're peaking or running out of oil, we're not, the problem of oil is access."

He saw difficulties ahead for world energy markets over coming years if geopolitical issues continued to plague major suppliers and investment remained at insufficient levels.

This is NOT an issue of SUPPLY, people! We have the technology, we have the resources! High gas prices, and dependence on foreign sources for our energy fall SOLELY at the feet of LIBERALS and ENVIRONMENTALISTS that will not ALLOW us to be free from dependence on foreign energy sources! So, liberals, kwitcherbitchin!

(And this does not even BEGIN to address the whole global warming FARCE, also invented and perpetuated by LIBERALS!)

Thanks for the question, Kim! =)

Because the big oil companies refuse to properly maintain the existing ones, so that they can drive prices up and keep costs down. This lack of maintainence got eight workers killed at a BP refinery in Texasville. BP paid well over 32 million dollars to settle the case so they wouldn't have to admit it in court.

Because GWB-CHENEY outsourced the work to the Middle East.

Well the Big Oil companies are getting pretty much a cost free product at the expense of 70 % unemployment in IRAQ. 100-300 billion gallons of oil are missing each day. Guess the neo-con brother - Israelis in Kuwaiti and Saudi robes get the lion share, as well Halliburton/Exxon/Mobile..

"It's not for you to question why but for you to do or die." - Mantra for the loyal Neo-con doormats.

The problem is that most people do not understand supply and demand economics and what the structure is of the cost of gas per gallon. Do you know that we are using more oil now than EVER before! People are driving at an alarming rate. Do you realize how much petroleum’s used in making plastics and then how many things we use are made of plastics? The oil company makes about 9 cents a gallon as profit. The rest is made up of Federal and State taxes, the cost of exploration and production, Refining and then the cost of the additives that we have to put in the gas (we call it designer gas, thanks to the environmentalist wacko's). Do you know that we have not built a refinery in almost 40 years? (thanks again environmentalist). The refineries that we have are working at capacity and that is not enough to keep up with demand. Do you know that we hardly get any oil from the Middle East? Most people think that is where it all comes from. Not true. We get our oil form Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and Africa, in that order. What we get from Saudi is a very small %. You want the cost of gas to drop....STOP driving, open up the ANWR for drilling and off our coasts (thanks again environmentalist) OR come up with an alternate fuel.

documentation would be needed to validate such a claim

BTW where was the Bush Family trying to put in on a reef?

FACT — DESPITE PAST RHETORIC, FOREIGN OIL DEPENDENCE HAS INCREASED: President Bush has pledged to reduce our energy dependence in every State of the Union he has delivered since taking office. At the same time, the United States has become increasingly dependent on foreign oil, from 58 percent of oil consumed in the U.S. in 2000 to 70 percent in September 2006. U.S. dependence on OPEC nations for oil imports “has risen to its highest level in 15 years.” By focusing on expanding domestic exploration, he perpetuates our dependence on oil.

This question was JUST asked by someone else, thus I'll post my same answer....

When did the Republicans take control of congress...? I'm thinking it was like 1994 or 1996? Plus, we had 6 years of Republican controlled congress and a Republican President?

How many new refineries were started during that time? If the Pugs were so keen on building new refineries, wouldn't have some at least been started during this time?

A better question would be why are they buying gas in the first place? Shouldn't they be walking everywhere--as to keep global warming in check?

Great point they're also against building nuclear plants that would give us all the power we need as a country. It would also eliminate the need to mine for coal and all of the hazards that come with it. Bottom line Libs are stupid and only like to ***** about things without coming up with a solution. The person above me needs to do some research we only get 10% of our oil from the middle east.
