No new refineries in 30 years. Why won't the dems let us drill?

The problem is that most people do not understand supply and demand economics and what the structure is of the cost of gas per gallon. Do you know that we are using more oil now than EVER before! People are driving at an alarming rate. Do you realize how much petroleum’s used in making plastics and then how many things we use are made of plastics? The oil company makes about 9 cents a gallon as profit. The rest is made up of Federal and State taxes, the cost of exploration and production, Refining and then the cost of the additives that we have to put in the gas (we call it designer gas, thanks to the environmentalist wacko's). Do you know that we have not built a refinery in almost 40 years? (thanks again environmentalist). The refineries that we have are working at capacity and that is not enough to keep up with demand. Do you know that we hardly get any oil from the Middle East? Most people think that is where it all comes from. Not true. We get our oil form Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and Africa, in that order. What we get from Saudi is a very small %. You want the cost of gas to drop....STOP driving, open up the ANWR for drilling and off our coasts (thanks again environmentalist) OR come up with an alternate fuel.

Are you serious? Wake up and smell the burning oil fields in Iraq!!!! Strange that gas prices are rising while we are in control of 1/3 of the worlds oil fields in the Middle East. Strange that our president has an ongoing relationship with the saudi oil kings. And by the way, oil is drilled in the US. Even if they did drill in alaska or any other reserve do you honestly think that it would bring the gas prices down below $2 dollars. I don't think so. It's called price gouging and the current administration is letting them get away with it because it's making there pocket heavier.

I would thank the oil companies for the high gas prices. Despite talk of supply and demand and other market and geopolitical forces, they've basically had a free hand since WW II. With G.W. in office, if Exxon wanted to charge 100 times what it costs to get the oil from the field to your gas tank who's going to stop them...Ted Stevens? As for drilling: are you one of those who don't believe in global warming? Whether human activity is causing all of it or 1%. I'd like to see us start thinking about other sources of energy besides oil. That shift might also reduce the U.S. desire to "spread freedom and democracy" in oil rich, Middle Eastern countries.

When did the Republicans take control of congress...? I'm thinking it was like 1994 or 1996? Plus, we had 6 years of Republican controlled congress and a Republican President?

How many new refineries were started during that time? If the Pugs were so keen on building new refineries, wouldn't have some at least been started during this time?

The Republicans had control of Congress and the Presidency for six years...how many refineries and wells were drilled in that period? None...okay.

You think that's the reason we have high oil prices? That is a smoke screen. Our president makes a lot of money off of oil and wanted to drill for his own profits. Oil wouldn't be any lower if we were drilling here.

I didn't realize that private industry needed permission to drill on their own land. OR do you mean the wildlife refuge in Alaska? They ARE drilling along the Gulf coast, in Alaska, and in multiple other countries.
