There are some good stories to a few of them. The band Lynyrd Skynyrd got their name from one of their teachers, a Mr Leonard Skinner.

Pink Floyd they got there name from a Jazz musician named Floyd pink or so the story go,s ! Led Zepp had help from Frank [ genius] Zappa R.I.P the story behind that is they were going to call themselves Lead Zeppelin but Zappa supposedly said that name will go down like a lead balloon so they dropped the a out of the lead and the rest is rock history ! And the skynard story is 100% true! Rush claim there name was used as it signifies a forward motion but that also could have other connotations

Well it depends.For a metal band for ex., they usually try some books or historical ones(mostly when it's black metal) or the religious books.Some others simply looking at the adress catalog like the band "Children of Bodom" who did that.

Yes I do how can people just suddenly think up Green Day or Iron Maiden or Guns N' Roses. There are loads of fab ones out there but how do people think about it. It is just pure genius.

every band has a story. from what i heard for gnr, they were former members of la guns and hollywood rose, hence guns n roses lol. green day came from a song about smoking pot and having a "green" day lol. i know a few others but these 2 i saw mentioned and i knew lol. but every band has their own story and own reason

yeah.....but the bands that i like i ususally find out how they got the name. there is always a story behind every band name...look it up.

the new bands coming out now arent creative, they just come up with some stupid, lame names that are too long

i think a lot of the earlier bands got their names from books or films.nowadays they just call themselves anything.
