I think it's sad that race is still downgraded to skin color and that it plays a role in how the media handles their opinion of a candidate.
I think it's also sad that politicians can never just answer a question with yes or no. They always come back with "Well Matt (or whoever the interviewer let me tell you ____________ (insert inane bs that goes back to something irrelevant that they're tying to make seem relevant). Then if you notice in the end, they never actually answer the question that was asked in the first place.
I think if you can find a candidate that has at least most of the same views as you do, that's straight forward, honest, and not annoying as all heck... that's who you should vote for. Maybe what we should do is abolish campaigning altogether. Or at least reduce it to one sheet of paper to be published in every media outlet possible. A questionnaire with multiple choice questions (circle yes or no being the bulk of the choices) so that there's no room for skirting the issues. I like it!

What I disagree with is voting for a black president because his is black or a woman president because she is a woman. I have no prejudice about it though because I know that I would vote in Rice if she decided to run(she won't though as she has been ask before). However voting for someone because of their race makes that person a racist. Voting of a woman because she is a woman makes the voter a sexist.

I think we need to elect the best PERSON for the job without regard to the color of their skin or their gender. I don't think there are many that could do worse than George Bush. He is both male and white and he is a total incompetent. I think it is high time to stop with the sexist and the racist attitudes and letting the good ole boys rule. If the way things are right now are not significant of a change being needed, I cannot imagine what could be.

I will vote for whoever I think is qualified period. It is unfortunate that racist tirades are inflicted on a race of people because another race or gender of person has not been elected. Projections against Americans about what they may or may not do is unacceptable.

Why would you think electing a black president would be 'unfair' to anyone?
Does it say in the Constitution that only rich white guys can be fairly elected to the office?

I could vote for Colin Powell or Condoleeza Rice, but they are too smart to run. They both see that the president, irregardless, will be the oppositions whipping boy for the next four years, and be criticised and blamed for everything that does and doesn't happen.

It's shameful, but true, and to reply to the other answerers it's always about race, we in a country where our political pundits openly declare that "Americans are not ready for a black President".

This is the kind of thinking that (in my eyes) promotes or encourages discrimination. Why not vote for a president with credentials and merit as opposed to skin color. You want egaulity and peace and **** look into Kucinich (sp?)

of course! Americans are ignorant for the most part and will not accept either a female or black president. That is my honest belief. I just don't think it will happen---even though it absolutely should.
