I bought a 1985 Nissan Maxima GL Wagon.
It hasn't been used for 7 years.
I replaced the battery, but after that I can't decide what to overhaul first.
The alternator/charge light won't come on when the key is in "On" position,
and the car won't attempt to start.
Is it possible that some starter components have seized after not being used for 7 years, and is it possible to fix it myself

Make sure the engine isnt siezed 1st. Try turning the engine over by hand, if it rotates, then you are Ok and the battery/starter would be the next logical choice. You may want to removed the spark plugs and add some penetrating oil down each spark plug hole before you try starting or turn over by hand. This will help lubricate the piston rings and not cause excessive wear once the engine starts. Once you get it running, check all safety related items before driving, like your brakes.
good luck.......

Yeah it could be, take out the starter and check that first, it will start without the alternator, also make sure it has a serpentine belt and oil, check coolant also...also look under the oil cap for milky looking oil.. that indicates a blown head gasket.

no manner it isn't valued at spending the cash in this automobile believe me. you'll be able to purchase anything a lot more trustworthy with 6000 greenbacks. you'll be able to purchase a 2003 ford ranger or 2003 mazda truck each are particularly well trustworthy vans. used crossovers like honda cr-v or toyota rav-four also are trustworthy choices.
