at the left hand side of the library there is suppose to be a little i-pod but i dont have one how do i get it?

Once your iPod's connected to the computer (provided the computer recognizes it's connected) it'll show up on the left in iTunes.
It's not version specific.

When you hook up your iPod to your computer with the included USB cable, your iPod icon should appear in iTunes. I personally plug in my iPod first and then open iTunes. You can also have iTunes set-up so that it automatically opens when you plug in your iPod.

Your Ipod has to be connected to the computer.

I think you have to upgrade your version of Itunes.
