Could be a congested or worn out fan, or it could be that the power supply is shot. If you are not familiar with these items you will need to replace one or both and have it done by a qualified technician.

Do you get any beeps from the box? they are a code from your bios to tell you whats wrong.
If you're not even getting the beeps try resetting the BIOS by removing the battery (Round button cell) on the motherboard for a minute and then put it back.
Make sure the RAM is seated by removing it and re-fitting it.
Look at the capacitors on the motherboard close to the processor, are they flat on top or dome shaped? If they are dome shaped then afraid your motherboard is a gonner.
Repost with a bit more info if poss should none of these get you going

Check the fan of the SMPS! It might not working. The symptom is of abnormal Shutdown of supply due to over heating (Thermal Shutdown ) of elements in SMPS.

There may be a lot of things that dont work at booting.
- bad fan (especially if it makes funny noises)
- bad power supply (either for fan or in general, meaning weak power supply)
- bad connection of the fan (as the processor heats up, connectors dilate and might lose their contact
- some unusual BIOS problem or bad settings (fans may be controllable or not, depending on your mobo / bios)

Here's a couple of links with boot trouble shooting.

If you don't even get a start-up screen (BIOS info, etc.), it is probably your power supply. If you have another PC, try swapping the power supplies if compatible.

You can probably buy a power supply on-line for under $40.00 if you have a generic (no name) or up to $100.00 if it is a Compaq or HP. Either way, it is cheaper than buying a new PC.

Good luck!

Try replacing the processor. Does the motherboard beep?

there is lot of reasons of this problem i am giving you some of them
1. it could be of over heating check that your fan is fitted properly and clean your fan if there is dust
2. check system ram remove it clean it than put it again
these are two most power full reasons

Hi. If your BIOS does not at least start or POST then I hope its a PSU problem. Double check that your RAM is seated properly.

I tend to disagree when you say your motherboard is fine. That is the first thing that would come to my mind as the possible problem.
